Frequently Asked Questions

What is chiropractic care and what do chiropractors do?

Chiropractic care is a holistic approach to health that focuses on the relationship between the body's structure—mainly the spine—and its function, as coordinated by the nervous system. Chiropractors use gentle, precise adjustments to remove interference in the nervous system, allowing the body to heal itself naturally and function at its best.

What do you do at Clear and Connected Chiropractic?

We specialize in family wellness, providing personalized care for everyone from newborns to great-grandparents. Dr. Cody uses advanced motion study x-rays and gentle techniques to locate areas of stress in the nervous system and restore proper motion and connection throughout the body.

Are there different types of chiropractors?

Yes! While all chiropractors focus on the spine, some specialize in certain areas like sports injuries, geriatrics, or pediatrics. At Clear and Connected, Dr. Cody is widely trained in various specialties, our focus is on neurologically-based whole family care where age is just a number, with a special emphasis on pre/post-natal support and pediatric wellness Dr. Cody is ready to serve the entire family & generations to come!

What does chiropractic help with?

Chiropractic care helps with much more than just back pain. By improving nervous system function, it can assist with headaches, sleep quality, digestive issues, immune support, pregnancy comfort, and overall energy levels, helping you move and feel better in your daily life.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Absolutely. Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Our gentle techniques are tailored to each individual's needs and comfort levels. Chiropractors also have lower malpractice insurance rates compared to any other doctoral level medical professional because of how safe we are as a profession.

Are there any side effects?

Most people feel immediate relief or a sense of relaxation after an adjustment. Some may experience mild soreness, similar to the feeling after a good workout, as the body begins to integrate the structural changes. This is temporary and a normal part of the healing process.

What if I notice something different after an adjustment?

It is common to notice changes in sleep, digestion, or posture as your nervous system begins to function more efficiently. These 'side effects' are often positive signs that your body is reconnecting and healing. Always feel free to share these observations with us!

What makes the adjustment work?

What makes the adjustment work is the brain and the rest of the nervous system. The nerves act like the eyes of the brain so that the brain can “see” what’s happening in its internal and external environment. When nerves don’t communicate effectively, which we call a chiropractic subluxation, the brain can’t accurately “see” what’s happening in that area and makes guesses as to what is going on. The brain is an amazing guesser, but can still make mistakes when subluxation happen. When the adjustment happens, the signal sent to the brain from the area resets the brain’s ability to “see” from the area again. Just like muscles need to be trained to stay strong, the brain needs to be trained when subluxation happens until it is self sufficient again.

How do I train to keep my brain and nerves healthy?

Keeping your nervous system healthy involves consistent chiropractic care, regular movement, proper hydration, and mindfulness. We provide guidance on 'neuro-hygiene' habits you can practice at home to support the work we do in the office.

Is chiropractic safe for babies, pregnant moms, and children?

Yes, it is incredibly safe and beneficial! We use specific, extremely gentle techniques for infants and children (often using no more pressure than you'd use to check a tomato for ripeness) and specialized protocols to support moms throughout every stage of pregnancy.

How often should you see a chiropractor?

Frequency depends on your individual health goals and the state of your nervous system. Some visit for acute relief, while many families choose regular wellness checks to maintain a healthy connection and prevent future issues. We'll create a plan that fits your life.

What should I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit is an educational and diagnostic journey. We'll discuss your health history, perform a thorough neurological assessment, and may use motion study x-rays to get a complete picture of your health. Dr. Cody will give your first adjustment & our front staff will schedule you back for a Day 2 Report of Findings where the doctor will go over any significant findings and discuss best care options to heal and meet your goals. Our goal is to make you feel heard, comfortable, and informed.

Do you take insurance?

We do not take insurance. In light of the nature of insurance companies and because how they qualify care isn’t up to date with the current neurological research, we wouldn’t be able to provide services in a quick, efficient manner that we know will be effective. However, if requested, we will offer you a “Super Bill” which is essentially a receipt of the services we provided that you can submit back to your insurance. Be sure to know the benefits of your plan with this option. If chiropractic care is covered by your plan, insurance companies will most often reimburse you, the patient, quicker and at a higher rate than they reimburse us as your service provider.
